New research released has revealed the biggest barriers preventing people from showing kindness to one another are tiredness, unawareness and hunger-induced anger.
Almost a quarter of all Brits (24 per cent of respondents) said they are too whacked after a hard day at work to be kind – while more than one-in-ten people (12 per cent) believe ‘hanger’ is the prime cause for their rudeness and unfriendliness.
Also in the excuse league comes looking cool in front of peers and spending too much time on our phones (both coming in at seven per cent of all respondents).
The research was compiled ahead of the launch of a three-part podcast called Kids Live KIND and examined the views of 2,000 people.
According to the study, the UK’s top 10 ‘kindness preventers’ are:
Being tired and exhausted
I'm unaware I'm doing it
Being busy and/ or rushing around
Being hungry ('hangry')
Not being aware of my surroundings
Spending too much time on my phone
