Des’s BME cancer plea

‘Dancing’ Des Coleman – the popular ITV weatherman – is urging men from Britain’s BME communities to stop putting off getting checked for prostate cancer.
The former West End singer and actor, who now plies his trade in ITV’s Central region, is urging men, particularly those who are African-Caribbean, to heed the warning signs and not put the test off until a rainy day.

And Des knows what he is talking about – after surviving THREE separate cancer battles.

‘I know a thing or two about cancer, you know,’ he said at the start of the #PlayDominoTalkProstate initiative launched by the Leicester-based Centre for BME Health.

‘I was at drama school, minding my own business, and cancer tried to get me. But we caught it early and a couple of years later it came back again, and I caught it early and then a couple of years ago I had it in my stomach but guess what, we caught it early again.

‘Everybody can get it – but one in four black guys can get it.
